107 years ago there was a Methodist Church in Anoka that realized they could reach more people for Christ if they reached out to their neighbors in the town next door, rather than expect everyone to come to them. They started a second worship site called Joyce Chapel. This little chapel thrived and grew through many different buildings.

Today we call ourselves Coon Rapids United Methodist Church. Around the time of our 100th anniversary we realized God was calling us follow in the footsteps of our founders and reach out to the people in the town next door by establishing another worship site. Now, after many years of work and planning we are in a position to share the blessings we have at Coon Rapids UMC with the Andover/Ramsey community. Our plan calls for ONE church with TWO locations and THREE worship services each Sunday.

When?

Renovations will begin in Late April and we hope to be open for activities by June.

Preview Worship Services will be held on August 17 and September 21, 2008

Grand Opening for worship will be Sunday, October 5  @ 10:30 AM

Why are we doing this?

Our church is committed to sharing the joy of Christian discipleship with people. Other churches like ours have discovered that one of the most effective ways to reach new people with the Good News of Jesus Christ is to start something new in the community.

Are we changing the name of the church?

Will any of our existing ministry groups be participating in worship in Andover?

Yes, the more the better! We anticipate that many of the special musical programs we enjoy in Coon Rapids will be shared in Andover. Of course, we also hope that new music ministries are born in Andover.

What other kinds of things will be happening?

Bible studies, after-school programs, Vacation Bible School, and rehearsals for music groups have all been discussed. God is constantly inspiring new ideas and raising up new ministers!

Who will be able to use the site?

We’re very interested in serving the Andover/Ramsey community by sharing our space with groups such as Scouts, Community Ed classes, 4H, etc. We have a tradition of sharing our space in Coon Rapids.
